While I’m on the subject, it’d be nice if they could use all that juicy personal information to hit me with ads based on more than just my relationship status.

Old folks and Facebook

NPR has a pretty lame story this weekend discussing online etiquette and the proper way to excuse ones self from a friend request on facebook: “Don’t be a jerk about it, be polite and decline politely…”

How could you possibly be a jerk about it? Could you actually offend someone by denying their friend request? Making online “friends” isn’t about cataloging or validating your friendships. Facebook is a way to explore information. The threshold is “yeah, i’m cool with this person learning more about me.”

however, i do think that facebook would be more well rounded with a bitch slap button.
